Bull Dogs Restaurant Review

Bull Dogs PO Box 46
Armagh, PA
(corner of 56 and Philadelphia St.)

Visited: Thursday, August 16, 2008 for lunch

Pricing - Excellent

Bearing in mind that this is a simple hot dog shop so as would be expected, it has a simple open dining area consisting of three picnic tables with tableclothes and plenty of napkins, which you'll need if you're anything like we are and pile on plenty of toppings.

The place is clean, but stacked with buns and other items needed for the operation. There's also four additional picnic tables on the outside covered concrete patio.

Be prepared if you're going to eat outside for the noise created by the convoy of coal trucks and traffic going by.

If you're looking for a full service restaurant you wouldn't be going to a hot dog joint! So although the service is at a minimum, "Bull" has to be one of the friendliest guys you'll ever meet. We felt as though we were visiting an old friend from the moment we walked in the place.

As you would expect, Bull Dogs sells hot dogs, however they also offer nachos and of course chips and drinks.

Unlike other hot dog joints where you feel you may need financing to get your hot dog topped the way you'd like it, Bull Dogs has a "One price fits all" for $1.25. The best part of it is that these are the best dern hot dogs that we've had anywhere! (We've had them all over the US!)

Although "Bull" claims that you can buy these hot dogs anywhere, we've not found them anywhere and believe you me, we've looked!!! Not only are they the best tasting dogs we've had, but they are also big enough that they stick out of the bun on both ends. Mmmm, Mmmmm, Good!

"Bull" puts on cheese, chili or sauerkraut if that's what you want. There is a wide variety of other toppings are on the counter and you can help yourself. There is the expected ketchup and mustard, but there's also other different kinds of mustard. Of course, there's chopped onions, however there's also hot pepper relish, and mild peppers too.

We've always been fans of rooting for the "underdog" and this is the classic case of the little guy, from the little town that you just want to cheer for. Don't get us wrong here, Bull Dogs deserves this recognition absolutely.

Bull Dogs will always hold a dear place in our hearts. It's just plain and simple, it's the best hot dog joint that you'll find anywhere and we'll gladly go out of our way to visit Armagh, just to eat there. How many other hot dog places would you do that for?

If you're a hot dog fan and you haven't been to Bull Dogs, then you're doing yourself an injustice and that's NO BULL!!!
