The Greatest Expression Of Love
In honor of Valentine's Day, I thought it would be fitting for my first article to be on the subject of Love.
What is love? How do you express love? What makes you feel loved?
These are questions we all ask at one time or another and it's good to know the answers but, there is an even more important question that everyone should know and understand the answer to: What is the greatest expression of love you've ever received?
Was it a gift? Was it the time you really messed up and someone said to you, “It's o.k. I still love you?” Was it the time when your wife/husband woke up before you and brought you breakfast in bed? Was it the first time your newborn child smiled at you?
What do you consider the greatest expression of love to be?
For me, the number one greatest expression of love is what God did for me, what God did for you.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not parish but have eternal life.”
Have you ever sat down and really thought about it?
God created His son and then He let His son be brutally tortured and put to death for one reason and one reason only... so that YOU, if you believe in Him; will never truly die. He allowed His son to die so that YOU will have no end, so that YOU will have eternal life.
Can you imagine any greater sacrifice? Would you be able to let your child die so that every person ever brought into this world would have the opportunity to live on through eternity? Or, if you do not have children, would you be able to choose the person you love the most in the world to die to save every other living person and ensure their eternal life?
In return for this amazing sacrifice, God only asks us to do one thing... Believe in Him. Is that too much to ask for such an expression of love?
How will you express the love you feel this Valentine's Day? Flowers, chocolate, a card, a romantic dinner, a weekend getaway, a hug, a kiss?
Whatever you choose to do, put thought into it, put time into it, put all your love into it.
But, more importantly, put in a thank you prayer to God. Thank Him for loving you, thank Him for loving the world, thank Him for giving the greatest gift he could give... His son, Jesus Christ; for YOUR eternal life.
Dear Lord,
I thank you for loving me so deeply and unconditionally. I thank you for the love you show me everyday. I thank you for those I love and those who love me. Please continue to teach me to love as you love and forgive as you forgive and let your love shine through me. Amen.
